Here are the FO pics after several tries to upload them.

Finished projects

I've been busy finishing things so that I can start others!
Here are some of the recent photos.
The purse is Paton's Wool with A furry yarn trim called Envy.
The afghan is Red Heart worked with double yarn for warmth at football and band competitions. Here in the Northeast, It's awful cold to sit on metal bleachers to watch these events at nite..
The little pumpkin hat is a quick work in Red Heart. But for future reference...this little pumpkin HEAD...needs ear flaps on his hats...he keeps pulling it off. I'm not sure if the dog wants to wear it or eat it!
She's actually a very friendly dog. She's nearly 8 yrs old and very mild with the baby. Tho she's a good watchdog and protects the house too.
And finally, my finished Mosaic socks from the SixSox Knitalong on Yahoo. This is a fun pattern and I've ordered yarn in different colors to do it again.
I'm still working on several other things..so watch this space for more FO's.

Where did the pictures go?

Where did they go? I know I saw them upload. don't you just love technology???? Try again ( for the 4th time)
Note to self...do not look away from the screen, do not take out the dogs...or get more tea...or read anything but the screen. It is ok to breathe..but quietly!
YEA!!! it works. I had total confidence that it would...yeah, right....but we can think that!
Knit on

WOW! has it been that long???

Gee, I've been ignoring all of you and I'm so very sorry. I've been busy with life and knitting and caring for a puggie pup who has taken over the house.
I've finished knitting an aran cardi (needs buttons), 4 baby sets (but forgot to photo 2 of them), a blanket and bootie set, a moebius basket, and a mobius cat bed (didn't work too well, wouldn't felt properly), several dishcloths for gifts and a puggie sweater! Now, I'm working on the Six Sock Knitalong pattern, Mosaic socks for October.
That's a lot of knitting!
The garden is nearly done. DH put the last fertilizer on yesterday. I've canned over 30 qts of tomatoes and frozen a lot more of zucchini, squash, and green beans. They'll taste wonderful when the snow flies. SIL and MIL made pepper relish. so we have a whole cupboard full of goodies for later.
DGS has 4 teeth now and 2 more poking thru probably later this week. He's growing so fast, He's standing up in the crib and climbing up to stand on the sofa. Won't be long, he'll be walking all over. He'll be a year old in November.
Knit on thru all crisises. Til the next time we meet.

Our new baby pics

Here she is! Our newest baby. Isn't she just the cutest little one?
Sophie is only 7weeks old.

Our new baby!

After this unsettling week, we have a new baby at our house! DS2 saw a sign yesterday when he was driving home from work and stopped to talk to the owners. He had them come over to the house with 3 beautiful little babies....And today DD2 and I went over to make a deal and bring one home to stay! take a look at our new baby.
Her name is Sophie and she's a purebred Pug only 7 weeks old. So now while I'm home recuperating, I've got a new baby to house train. So far, she's doing very well. She's very social and likes lots of attention and kisses. The current resident dog, Tux and cat, Lucy aren't really sure just what to make of her. Tux didn't appreciate that it was bath day either! Sophie had her first bath in the bathroom sink. She's so tiny that there was a lot of extra room even in there! She wasn't sure that she liked the water or soap but didn't mind the pedicure.

long time to post

I've been away for a while. The summer has passed us by this year. Dh has been very busy with the garden and since so many things come in at once...I'm busy canning the produce. Today DD 2 and I canned 10 quarts of fresh tomatoes...they sure will taste good come winter DH and DD2 did all the heavy part, lifting around the pots of hot water... I did the tomato peeling and cutting and filling of the jars.. Part of the busy-ness has been surgeries...planned and unplanned.
DD2 had her foot operated on to take off a cyst from the back of her heel...it's healing but slowly. She has stitches that still need to come out, hopefully next week.
I had an unplanned apendectomy last Monday. So I'm off work for at least a week and maybe more. but on the bright side, I'm getting a lot of knitting time!
I finished a baby sweater set and started another. This time I'm using the Precious Layettes pattern from Leisure Arts instead of the hood zip that I usually use for gifts.

Just look at all the wonderful veggies that DH has grown in his garden.
The beets were really good, I made pickled redbeets with eggs. So good, that they're all gone!

More socks!

I've been busy making more CIC socks. Some of the yarn in the striped pair is what was donated by my LYS.
While I've been busy inside with my knitting, DH has been very busy outside in the garden. We call him Farmer Joe McGregor....just take a look at some of the wonderful veggies that he's been growing.
We've already eaten peas, string beans, beets, carrots, squash, zucchini, onions, lettuce, spinach and peppers from the garden. Fresh veggies are wonderful...and you can't get fresher than this!

CIC Socks 2

more socks, yarn discounts and free yarn!

I've finished 3 more pairs of socks fof CIC. I ran out of the green when
I was nearly done. When I visited my LYS this am, I was telling the owner and the knitting group there about the socks and orphans. She gave me a nice discount on the yarn I bought and also put in some leftovers for free! My LYS is Swisher's Yarn Basket in Danville,PA. The owner is Carol Swisher. If you're anywhere nearby, stop in there. She's got a nice shop with many fine yarns and she's very friendly. I'm already working on the next pair!

knitted 100% wool socks for CIC

been busy!

I've been so busy that I've forgotten to write!
I won't try to catch up all of it.
But right now I'm knitting for CIC. Children in Common is a group that sends warm woolies to children in Russian orphanages. They ask that the yarns used be mostly wool, since that is much warmer for the children. The homes aren't well heated and may be only 45 F even in the winters. The knits are hand delivered by people who are adopting and by knitting groups.
I've had a very kind offer from a knitting shop owner to supply some yarn for me. So I'll be posting those wools and socks in the near future. For now, I have 4 pairs done and a 5th nearly done. The main pattern that I'm using is from the Yahoo group, SixSox Knitalong. The pattern is called Chutes and Ladders. It's really easy to remember. The socks are sized to fit children from age 1-5.

Baby sweater for DH's nephew's new baby

Sometimes life just interferes...

I know I've been away from the keys too long. Sometimes life just interferes with your blogging and knitting too. We've been really busy around here. My DD#1, Baby and SO have moved into the house from 1700 miles away. DH and DS#1 went to get their furniture and things and DD and baby flew in early. So now the census in the house is up to 8 and it's a bit crowded. Baby has been great, adjusting well to all the new people and the new place. But my knitting time has been greatly reduced.
Also add in the my counterpart at work has been on vacation, so I'm working many more hours the last 2 weeks.
Hopefully it will soon settle down and I'll get back to knitting and blogging.
I did finish another baby sweater. This is a gift for Dh's nephew and wife who just had a new baby.

My dog Tux. she's 7yrs old and spoiled rotten. She really went into withdrawal while the kitty was so sick and away at the vet hospital.

My kitty, Lucy, tho he's a male. named by DD#1 when she thot kitty was a female...I guess it should be Desi since the vet kept calling him HER!

No knitting news

I'm afraid that there's no new knitting news this week. I've been out sick mostly all week. I get episodes of vertigo and that's how I spent this week. On Tuesday, I woke with mild dizziness and just took it easy most of the day. But then on Wednesday I felt better and even went to an appointment for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Thursday morning I woke on the Tilt-a-whirl. I couldn't even stand up the room was spinning so badly. I spent the day on the couch and rallied enough to go with dh to dd's softball game. In the late morning we realized that we had a very sick kitty and had to run him to the animal hospital. They kept him until Saturday with a urinary blockage. The vet said a few more hours and we would have lost him. Thankfully he's a lot better today and home again. He's a little slow and very snuggly right now, which he usually is not! He's got medicines and special food for a month until he goes back to recheck. Our dog really missed him while he was gone. Friday, I was unable to see the doc for the vertigo since he's not in on Fridays so I called my nurse at work and she recommended Benadryl or Dramamine for the dizziness. Both have helped me, but the Benadryl also puts me to sleep. so I spent Friday on the couch all day too! Geez, I feel like Sleeping Beauty...too bad I don't think I look much like her! This morning I was unable to stand up again so didn't get to go to work. I really hope this goes away soon. SIL retrieved the kitty for me so that's the bright spot of the day.
Hoping I'm getting off the tilt-a-whirl at the next stop.

Oh, I wish the weekend could last longer!

It's been a wonderful weekend even tho I really haven't done any knitting. Yesterday, I went to DD#2 softball game, tho she isn't playing very much, she's on the high school team. The won quickly in 2 2/3 innings. Scoring 18-3. It was a beautiful day to be outside, the temps were around mid 60's and sunny with a slight breeze. I had a good experience bidding on E-bay and actually won the item that I was bidding on. It's another version of Noah's ark. This one from Annie's Attic. The leaflet is out of print so I was very pleased to win it.
Today in church, I was able to finally pass out 3 of the baby giftie sweaters that I had knit. Only to find out the I need to make at least one more since there's now another new baby on the way to church families. I think the count is now 9 for the year! And there sitting in the pew beside my family was one of my dearest friends. Debbie and I have been friends for over 20 years! I was so sad when they moved away about a year ago. But they have family in the area and come often to visit. Sometimes, I miss seeing them since I often work on Sundays. But today was a bonus and she and her oldest DD were able to come to the house to visit for a few hours. It's just wonderful how you slip right back into conversations with old friends, just like a comfortable sweater, the fit is just right!
And to top it all off, today is Dh and my 24th wedding anniversary. We had a special dinner of pork ribs and salad that we cooked together.
Yes, it's been a great weekend. Oh, if only the weekend could last longer!

MDD scarf #2 Sockotta yarn. Pattern and project knitalong on Knit and Chat.

Fooshies, booties from this neat book, These are for GS, Buster!

Some of the Noah's ark animals, The grey thingy in the front is supposed to be a cat, not a giant mouse!

Running down the Rabbit trail

I haven't been blogging...because I've been busy creating! I finally got some pictures to put here.
I finished another felted bag. I made up the pattern as I knit along. This is using more "spring-like" colors. DD#2 also said it needed a long shoulder strap, so that's what went on this one. Hopefully, she doesn't want to borrow it! I'm pleased to see that she's actually using the one that I made for her a while back. I still have more wool so I may make another for a gift for a friend.
I started to work on a granny square afghan, but I'm using a different layout. Instead of just joining all the squares, I'm joining them into strips then putting the connecting color around the strip then joining the strips to finish it. I'm using Windsor blue for the connecting color.
Also I started to do Noah's Ark animals for my GS, Buster. I've finished a few, 2 lions, an elephant, Noah and Mrs. Noah, 2 chickens, 2 rabbits and a cat that DH says looks like a giant mouse! I'm using several patterns to accomplish the animals. The House of White Birches puts out a nice crochet leaflet with 7 animals, Noah and Mrs and the ark. I'm using an old Needlecraft magazine for some animals like farm type, the cat, cow, horse, pig. I'm also using Jan Messent's Knitted Garden to make smaller animals like the rabbit, squirrel, and birds. Altogether, it will take a while to make, but I'm sure that our little fellow will enjoy all the variety of animals when he's older. He's just 4 1/2 months now, so I have plenty of time to make this for him. I hope to have it done for his 1st birthday in November. That's "IF" I don't go running down any more rabbit trails and get off this project!

Busy knitting and (horrors!) crocheting!

I still haven't had any time to get the camera back from DS1. So sorry, still no pictures to post.
but on the flip side, I've been busy. Worked the last 4 days and knitting on an afghan. It's the SARCA afghan from here.
www.knitlist.com/00gift/sarca.htm
It's an easy to memorize pattern. I'm using up some old leftovers. You hold two colors together as you knit a square. Makes it nice and thick. I'm hoping to take it to all the softball games here in the early spring. It's awful cold sitting there not running the show. This is the first yr in the last 9 that I haven't helped coach in some capacity. I haven't decided yet if I like just watching. But it's definately a lot colder! Spring comes late here in Central PA.
Then I'll have it for the band season in the fall. Maybe I better make it 4x thick!
Also I'm working on an easy granny square afghan with the even smaller leftovers from the SARCA.
I'm also helping a friend at work who is just learning to crochet. She's already finished a baby afghan and is working on another! She's using the granny square pattern. so as soon as I get some pictures, you will all see the current projects.

Too many projects

I've been so busy knitting that I didn't take time to blog.
This week, I've finished a new felted bag, a pair of fooshies, and started a cow hat.
The felted bag is my own pattern, made in spring colors, lt blue,dk and lt greens, yellow, purple and a varigated called Spring Desert. It has pinks and yellows mixed. The bag is currently drying on top of the dryer and the handles are happily felting in the washer. When it's done and assembled, I'll get a pic.
The Fooshies are little felted booties for my GS, Buster. They're dk purple (his mama's favorite color) and lt blue, with a little white cuff with lavendar trim. They're swishing in the washer too. When they're done and dry, I'll post a pic. The pattern is found in Knit Baby Head & Toes. I got the book at AC Moore on Sunday for 40% off. What a great deal! less than I'd have paid on Amazon.
The little cow hat is an experiment to check the gauge of a pattern and yarn. This pattern is found in Dale of Norway #135. That book I got from my wonderful friend Marja at the Yarn Boutique yarn shop. Look for her here!
www.yarnboutique.us/
She's the owner and also a member of Knit and Chat forum on Delphi.
wonderful service. If she doesn't have it, she'll get it. check her out.
That's enough to keep me busy for a while, with all the new books. Now I just need more yarn!

giftie sweater # 3

Giftie sweater done

Finished the next in the series of giftie sweaters. 3 done, about 5 to go! I'm knitting a second MDD scarf. This one using the sockotta yarn from my orange striped socks on size 10's. It's turning out lacy and looks nice so far.
Today we spent shopping, DD needed a lot of new softball gear for the High School team. We looked in about 6 stores for a mitt that she liked since she blew out the palm of the old one this week at practise. And new cleats, since the ones we got a few weeks ago don't fit really well. Hope this time all the gear is right.
New mitt, cleats, sweat suit (in the right color), palm guard, undershirt, and a new bag to carry it all in!
Geez, I hope she's soon done shopping!
Now, I can spend the evening knitting....yeah!

MDD Scarf made with Sassy Stripe yarn by Mona Dea

Today's project

All right, I'm a sucker for a good pattern and they've got one on the go at Knit and Chat.
I've been reading all the posts about the Multi Directional Diagonal Scarf Knitalong that they're doing over there. So this morning I cast on with the leftover Sassy Stripe yarn from my sock project. It really knits up quickly on size 7"s with the sock yarn. I finished it this afternoon and it was promptly claimed by my DD#2. She says "cool, it matches my socks!"
So, I guess I have to make another if I expect to actually wear one myself! This pattern is like potato chips...you can't make just one!
Go to Knit and Chat and take a look, maybe you'd like to make one yourself....but be careful. You can't make just one!

Wednesday, March 16, 2005

the green stripe is my own Trekking Challenger pattern. The blue/red/brown stripe and the blue/purple stripe and the green/pink/red are all Magic Stripe yarn in a variety of patterns.

.
Sassy stripe socks are the pink/ red stripes. Orange striped ones are Sockotta.

Knitting slowly

I know, I've been slacking. It's been 5 days since I posted. I've been plugging away on a few different projects, but not getting them done very quickly.
I did finish the Sassy socks and I finished the knitting on baby giftie sweater #3. I don't have a picture yet of the giftie. Today, I want to try to get the zippers sewn into the gifties and package them to give away.
I started another pair of socks. This a different pattern from Knitter's 72. It's called Strong Heels socks. The heel isn't really turned like a regular heel. When I get that far, I'll post a pic.
I've been hearing the birdie's singing in the morning so spring can't be far off. I haven't seen any robins yet but I saw daffodils greens poking thru a neighbors ground yesterday. They were about 4 " tall already.
Hurry up spring!

Giftie Sweaters...a series of 7

Well...vacation days are made for knitting. I had to use it or lose it. So I took 2 vacation days this week. Aside from spending 15 timer minutes each day working on the cluttered attic ( see www.Flylady.com ), I've been working on the next in the giftie sweater series. I'm on #3. This is in a varigated color that has pink/ yellow/green/blue/purple....a real variety yarn. I'm down to the underarms again, with both sleeves done. This color looks girly, so it's a swingy body style. On the boys sweater, I just work down and rib the bottem. I'll probably finish it tomorrow nite or Saturday, then I'll post a pic.
Oh, and the best news of the day....DD made the high school softball team! She's been working so hard at practise and pitching. Today they posted the cut list. YEAH! She's on the team! So we had to celebrate with brownies with M&Ms and vanilla ice cream on top for dessert.
Hard on my weight watchers diet...but well worth it!

King of the feeder

2nd giftie sweater done

Wild Weather and finished projects

The weather today has been really wild! It started out raining very hard this morning, then it changed to snow. Now the sun is shining. But it got a lot colder. I had some visitors to the birdie feeder. The one big one sits on my feeder then hangs upside down to get some seeds out. He brought 2 other friends but the feeder was his to command! When the others tried to get up on top. He pushed them off. I only got a pic of the King of the feeder. The others ran away when I flashed the camers.
The finished project today is the 2nd giftie sweater. It turned out a little bigger than I planned. But that will allow growing room for the baby to wear it a bit longer. DD who is 15 picked the color. It's quite bright! Now to start giftie sweater #3 or maybe to try to finish those Sassy socks. I worked on them this morning a bit. I'm up to the gussets working them toe up on 2 circulars.

Some days you feel like a nut...somedays you don't

I'm not just a new computer user...but somedays you just feel dumb. First of all...I just can't seem to remember my name and passwords for all these new things that I'm trying to learn at one time. I'm trying to put these really nice pictures on this blog so that everyone can see them. And to do that, I need to learn this new blog program and also the new picture program and the new upload program. I'm usually a fast learner...but then, I usually read the directions too. So maybe that's part of the problem. Since I've been around the computer for a long time and windows programs with all the buttons that are nearly dummy proof....I figured I could wing this and get the pics in the right places without reading all the instructions....WELL...DING DONG! I'm wrong! I finally did get some of my pictures up here. But I guess I better slow down and actually read the instructions so that I can do it easier next time. But then sometimes....the instructions just aren't very clear either! So maybe feeling like a nut really doesn't apply. The instruction writer was the nut....I'm just the chocolate coating!

Movie knitting

I'm just not a movie person most of the time. All I have to do to fall asleep is to turn on a movie. They usually don't hold my interest. But put my knitting in my hands.....We watched King Arthur today and I finished both sleeves of the giftie baby sweater. All the way to the cuffs! About 12" of knitting in the round on dpns. I'm using a varigated blue/green/aqua and the hooded zip up back baby sweater. It's worked down to the underarms and now the sleeves are done too. I just need to do the tummy part and it will be ready for the zipper. This is the second of about 7 for church gifts. It seems almost all of the younger couples are having babies this year. I've been knitting this same pattern for about 25 yrs. I made some when my boys were born and the oldest is 24. Everyone seems to like it and it's easy enough to actually watch a movie and not mess it up.

End of the week update

Well, here it is Saturday nite, let's see what I've done this week. I was sick most of the week with a nasty headcold and sinus junkiness. So while I sat on the couch on my franny, I kept busy knitting.
Finished a baby sweater for my GS: It's the striped whale sweater from FCEK. I changed it a little as usual. I added a button band on the shoulder to make it easier to dress the little darling. And I didn't put the little boat on the front, just the whale and 2 little fishies.
Finished a pair of socks for me. They're Socketta Disco yarn. It's self striping yarn in oranges and black and white color. They fit really well...but the heel is wearing thin after only 2 wearings. I may have to reinforce the heels.
Worked on another baby sweater for a church gift. It seems that about 6 people are having babies between now and September. I have one done and the second worked to the underarms. I'm using a zip up the back hooded sweater pattern. It's knitted in one piece from the hood down.
It's been a busy knitty week.

A Whole New World

I'm taking tiny baby steps into a whole new world of blogging. I've been computer friendly for quite a few years, but never started a blog until now. I'm not sure exactly why. I plan to talk mostly knitting tho I'm sure some other things will sneak in here at times too.
I'm deep into knitting at the moment. I've been knitting for about 30+ years. I do other crafts like crochet, cross stitch and quilting tho at the moment the knitting bug has bitten me.
I like to knit socks and baby items mostly at the moment. I've just finished hosting a Great Sock Adventure to teach others to knit socks on the Delphi Forum, Knit & Chat. We had about 40 knitters sign up and around 15 complete their sock project. I plan to host another sock along near the end of April. If anyone is interested, come over and visit us at Knit & Chat.

http://forums.delphiforums.com/knitchat/start

The sock that we knit was an internet pattern and there are some of the completed socks on my Yahoo album under Knit and Chat Adventure. Here's the link to the album.
